Monemvasia_dsc_0053Monemvasia_dsc_0100The Municipality of Monemvasia, located in Lakonia, held a welcoming reception for the 400 passengers and crew members of the Quest for Adventure cruise ship that made a stopover today, 11 April, at Monemvasia Port.

The Quest for Adventure is the first cruise ship to dock at Monemvasia’s port this year.

Passengers of the cruise ship received traditional sweets of Monemvasia, information material on the destination and also enjoyed local traditional dances from the dance group of the “Rizes” Cultural Association.

Last year, some 25,000 cruise ship passengers visited Monemvasia. According to local tourism professionals, similar traffic is expected this year and already there are encouraging signs for 2014.

Monemvasia_dsc_0086The Municipality of Monemvasia said it’s making efforts to establish the destination as an important port of call in Greece.

These actions include the improvement of the port infrastructure, implementation of all international safety standards, promotion actions and constant communication with agencies to include tours of Monemvasia in travel packages.

Efforts are also being made for cruise ships to make stopovers at Neapoli Port in Lakonia by promoting the Kastanias cave as an attraction for tourists.
