Destinations news Tripoli Military Airfield To Convert Into Civil Airport by GTP editing team 18 April 2013 written by GTP editing team 18 April 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 A tender for the conversion of Tripoli’s military airfield into a civil airport will launch once the Ministry of Development approves the submitted project plan, according to an announcement made yesterday, 17 April, at an event held by the Region of Peloponnese and Invest in Greece. The conversion of the military airfield in Tripoli is planned through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and is hoped to attract low cost carriers to the region and later lead to the airport’s transformation as a hub for cargo flights. According to the technical study of the airfield’s conversion, the project’s budget is estimated at 70-90 million euros, while expenses for the airport’s operation are estimated to amount to 1.5-2.5 million euros annually. The technical study was conducted by Canadian company IBI Group. Governor of the Peloponnese Region Petros Tatoulis Region of Peloponnese On his part, the Governor of the Peloponnese Region Petros Tatoulis referred to the region’s planned development projects that include improvements to the port infrastructure in the Peloponnese and the creation of a network of marinas. Mr. Tatoulis also mentioned that improvements to the infrastructure of Gythio Port are underway to enhance its commercial character and that the region is promoting a plan for the creation of a marina in Monemvasia through Public-Private Partnership.
