Greece has made an agreement with Sweden to launch a joint promotion for autumn city breaks in Athens and Stockholm, according to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.

The announcement followed Mrs. Kefalogianni’s recent visit to Stockholm to strengthen the tourism relations of both countries.

During her meeting with the head of Visit Sweden, Thomas Bruhl, the tourism campaigns of the Greek National Tourism Organization and Visit Sweden were discussed.

Mrs. Kefalogianni showed a particular interest in Sweden’s online strategy that focuses on attracting visitors through social media channels. Sweden has launched pioneering campaigns via social media and especially on twitter.

“Sweden is a very important market for Greece, one that we want to develop further because the Swedes are included in the category of quality visitors,” Mrs Kefalogianni said.

The tourism minister also met with Swedish tour operators during her stay in Stockholm and discussed prospects for the further development of new forms of tourism, such as sports tourism, which is highly popular among the Swedes.

Mrs. Kefalogianni also addressed an event entitled “Greece in our hearts” and underlined the long history of close friendship and cooperation between Greece and Sweden.

According to the tourism minister, over 500,000 Swedes visit Greece for holiday and thousands of Greeks live permanently in Sweden.
