Ryanair Οpens Νew Hub Οn Chania, Crete

chania airportIrish low-cost airline Ryanair on Thursday, 25 April, opened its first Greek hub on Chania, Crete. Until October 2013, Chania Airport “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” will serve 26 European destinations with 106 flights per week and a total of 500,000 passengers.

Out of the 26 routes Ryanair will fly from Chania Airport, 11 are new: Billund, Bremen, Bristol, Eindhoven, Katowice, Marseille, Memmingen, Venice, Vilnius, Warsaw and Thessaloniki.

The Chania-Thessaloniki route will launch on 2 June and operate six days a week (Sunday through Friday).

A Boeing 737-800 will be parked in Chania Airport on a permanent basis and the extension of the company’s activities in the Cretan city is expected to create some 500 “on-site” job positions.

According to Ryanair, the investment for the new base reaches $85 million.
