In November 2011, Mr. Samaras spoke to Greek hoteliers while representing the main opposition of the Greek Government at the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels’ first general meeting. Some 50 businessmen and representatives of Greece’s privatization agency (TAIPED) will accompany Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on an official visit to China next week. There, the Greek government hopes to lay the groundwork for future investments and seal deals in the tourism and agricultural sectors. According to Greek newspaper Kathimerini, during the Greek PM’s trip, officials from TAIPED will present to Chinese officials the public property that the agency is trying to sell. The aim is to attract Chinese interest in airports as well as sea ports. Mr. Samaras’ trip to China will take place 15-19 May and he will hold meetings with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Kathimerini also reported that the Greek PM is trying to line up a meeting with US President Barack Obama next month.
