A subsidized internship program targeting 10,000 unemployed young Greeks up to age 29 to offer them the opportunity to gain work experience in the tourism sector, was announced today, 9 May, at a press conference by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis. The internship program is funded by the operational program “Human resources development” and stakeholders are the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) and the Hellenic Management Association (EEDE). According to SETE, the program will offer job positions in the Greek tourism sector to 2,000 Technological Educational Institute (TEI) graduates and 8,000 secondary and post-secondary graduates. The internship program will last three to five months and those selected to participate will receive 80 hours of theoretical training and 500 hours of practical exercise in various positions in Greek tourism enterprises (hotels, travel agencies, airlines, car rental companies and others). The program will be implemented via a voucher system and applications will be evaluated according to the qualifications of each applicant (knowledge of foreign languages, level of education, etc.). In regards to payment, TEI graduates will receive 2.700 euros (including statutory deductions) and secondary and post-secondary graduates will receive 2.400 euros (including statutory deductions). It is noted that the internship program offers healthcare but not social security stamps. Those interested are required to complete an on-line application form at www.sete-voucher.gr. Applications may be submitted online as of tomorrow, 10 May. Deadline is 27 May. The program is expected to launch in mid-June 2013. For further information (in Greek), press here.
