The average nightly rate last year was 92 euros. According to the data, the decrease in the cost of accommodation in Greece is the largest in Europe among the prime summer destinations. More specifically, in May 2013, prices at Greek hotels (many located at popular summer destinations) dropped: 11 percent to an average nightly rate of 128 euros (144 euros last May) in Agios Stefanos, Mykonos 15 percent to an average nightly rate of 62 euros (73 euros last May) in Chania, Crete 14 percent to an average nightly rate of 55 euros (64 euros last May) in Hersonissos, Crete 12 percent to an average nightly rate of 80 euros (91 euros last May) in Heraklion, Crete 31 percent to an average nightly rate of 41 euros (59 euros last May) in Matala, Crete 28 percent to an average nightly rate of 130 euros (180 last May) in Firostefani, Santorini 19 percent to an average nightly rate of 43 euros (53 euros last May) in Parikia, Paros. According to Trivago, even in Elounda, Crete, prices are lower than last year (by 13 percent), “although they are still kept at high levels” (159 euros per night). Athens and Thessaloniki Hotel prices in Athens are on the same wave length, as a 13 percent drop was recorded this month with an average nightly rate of 84 euros (96 euros last May). In Thessaloniki, prices have dropped 20 percent with the average nightly rate standing at 74 euros (93 euros last May).
