The yearly award, second edition, was dedicated this year to the improvement of sustainable hospitality by means of environmental protection and preservation. “We are really proud that Michel Cottray of Costa Navarino won this prominent award,” the national representative of the EHMA Greek-Cypriot chapter, Stefanos Stefanou (general manager of AKS Hotels), said. The evaluation criteria of the Sustainability Award by Diversey consist of forward-looking plans and out-of-the box approaches, which facilitate the perfect matching of sustainability with hotel bottom line accounting, security, risk management and corporate responsibility issues. People – Profit – Planet are thus part of this innovative concept of perfect balance between business and environment. Diversey, in partnership with EHMA for the award, specializes in the supply of sustainable and innovative cleaning and hygiene solutions. The winning Greek resort turned out to be exceeding the conventional idea of sustainability by means of an advanced holistic approach which pays special attention to energy, water, waste reduction and environment care. “That was made possible thanks to relevant business partners but also to staff and guests involvement in waste reduction and wise water consumption,” an announcement by EHMA said. The main topic of the 40th EHMA annual General Meeting was “Reinventing the luxury Hotel” where the best practices and creative solutions were shared and the world of changing luxury in the hotel industry was explored. EHMA was established in Rome in 1974 and is a non-profit-making association. Today the association boasts some 450 members, all of whom are General Managers of the grandest and most prestigious hotels in 28 European countries.
