The congress, scheduled to take place 13-17 June, will mark the 50th anniversary of Europa Nostra’s continuous action in favor of Europe’s cultural and natural heritage. The Europa Nostra Congress in Athens will be attended by a large number of heritage professionals, volunteers from all over Europe, many prominent invited guests, as well as, high representatives of EU Institutions, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. During the congress, on 16 June, the first Europa Nostra list of “7 Most Endangered Heritage Sites in Europe” will be announced. “We shall mark this important milestone in the life of our organization by giving new impetus to our commitment to mobilizing public and private support for saving Europe’s endangered heritage,” Europa Nostra said. On the same day, the European Heritage Awards Ceremony will celebrate the winners of the 2013 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards. The ceremony will take place at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus under the Acropolis. The ceremony will include a cultural/musical performance that will both express the inextricable link between Europe’s tangible and intangible heritage and highlight the deep connection between Greek literature and music and the natural environment in which it has flourished over about 30 centuries. Europa Nostra’s European Heritage Congress for 2013 is organized with the assistance of member organization and country representative in Greece, Elliniki Etairia, which itself is celebrating this year 40 years of action for the protection of the Greek environment and cultural heritage. The congress will conclude on 17 June with a One-Day Island Cruise to Hydra and Aegina. For the complete program and additional information, press here.
