“The new tourism bill aims to respond decisively to all needs of the tourism industry,” Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said today, 29 May, during the closed session of the 21st General Assembly of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE).

The new tourism bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament soon.

Among other things, the new bill will concern the operational unification of accommodation units, certify tourism committees to control tourism offenses on a regional level, introduce new tourism products such as youth hostels, upgrade the procedures for licensing marinas and for the operation of ski centers.

Future plans of the Greek Tourism Ministry

Mrs. Kefalogianni also referred to the Tourism Ministry’s plans for the next 10 years that include:

  • supporting entrepreneurship by facilitating investment projects
  • improving the institutional framework for tourism and its special forms
  • ensuring the quality of tourism infrastructure and services
  • investing in the country’s human resources

The tourism minister said the ministry aims to establish a steady communication strategy and identity for Greek tourism that would last at least a decade.

Other aims of the ministry include the coordination of all parties involved in the country’s tourism policy (regions and municipalities) and the further strengthening of alternative forms of tourism.
