King George_Exterior1Tomorrow, Wednesday, 5 June 2013, the King George hotel in Athens will reopen its doors following an intensive 3-month renovation.

The cost of the renovation exceeded the amount of 2.5 million euros and will be completed in the winter, according to hotel group Lampsa SA that has leased the property. Lampsa is the owner of the adjacent Hotel Grande Bretagne.

This is Lampsa’s third five-star hotel in Greece, after Hotel Grande Bretagne and the Sheraton Rhodes Resort in Rhodes (together with the Sbokos Family), thus providing many job positions.

“This new investment is, beyond any business incentive, a contribution of the company towards the recovery of the Greek economy,” George Galanakis, chairman of Lampsa, said.

According to Lampsa, the results of the first five months and the progress of bookings, allow for a moderate optimism regarding recovery driven by Greek tourism.

The King George reopens with 59 rooms, 43 unique suites and a Penthouse suite with private pool and jacuzzi overlooking the Acropolis.

“The book of the King George story was first written in the 1930s and since then its many glorious pages record the most significant moments of social life in Athens,” Lampsa noted.

The renovation of King George was curated by architect Alexandros K. Samaras and the hotel will be managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
