Hotelstars UnionGreece and Denmark are the new members of the European hotel classification system Hotelstars Union (HSU) and will now classify their hotels according to the identical criteria of participating countries.

Denmark is the 14th and Greece the 15th member country of the HSU.

Greece is the second Mediterranean country to join the HSU, after the entry of Malta in 2012.

According to HOTREC, the European umbrella association for hotels, restaurants and cafés, this is yet another important step towards harmonization with southern tourism destinations.

Hotelstars Union“The example of Denmark and Greece –two countries with such different climatic conditions– emphasises the flexibility of the European hotel classification system and is likely to encourage other countries to join the HSU,” the association said.

Presumably, Denmark and Greece are going to introduce the HSU’s system with a three-year transition period in 2015.

According to the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, the implementation of the HSU system is an important step in upgrading the Greek tourism product.
