Athens International Airport (AIA) was honored with the 2013 Eco-Innovation Award by the independent Advisory Board of Airport Carbon Accreditation at the 9th Annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards on 10 June.

The award ceremony was held during the opening reception of the joint ACI Europe/ACI World Annual Congress and Exhibition taking place at Istanbul, Turkey (10-12 June).

AIA scored highest on criteria such as stakeholder engagement, staff training and innovation.

According to an announcement, AIA’s hard work to lower its CO2 emissions confirms that despite economic pressures, the company continues to seek and deliver environmental management systems that go well beyond regulatory requirements.
