Event News Mykonos Biennale 2013 by GTP editing team 12 June 2013 written by GTP editing team 12 June 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 12 This is not a biennial…It is a symposium where Art and Philosophy meet with the extraordinary energy of Mykonos. Over 100 international artists will arrive to the islands of Mykonos and Delos this month to take part in the 1st Mykonos Biennale, an artist-run, avant-garde festival of new media, film and art. During 21-23 June, artists will present their work and address this year’s theme: “Crisis and Paganism.” The theme mocks the Crisis Industry’s choice of Greece as a main protagonist in their current financial disaster scenario. In an exemplary way, the crisis punishes paganistic Greece, who is idly dancing and drinking as the “southern latino lover,” the grasshopper of Aesop’s story. Art Program The venues of the Mykonos Biennale are located in many strategic points to initiate the visitor into the cultural inheritance of the island. The art exhibitions, installations and performances of artists, musicians and dance group will spread throughout the monasteries, museums, old houses, ancient island of Delos, the windmills and other monumental buildings. The heart of the festival is the Cine Mando that will host the first open air video film festival, lively discussions and debates. “Mykonos, Greece’s most legendary island, has been beloved by artists and intellectuals since the beginning of documented history. From Homer, to Picasso and Breton, to Jean Paul Gaultier, artists have long regarded the island to be a symbol of progressive and transcendental thought. This legacy makes Mykonos the ideal host for this curatorial initiative,” the organizers of the 1st Mykonos Biennale said. For further information, press here.
