nissos-mykonosHellenic Seaways passenger ship “Nissos Mykonos,” carrying 174 passengers and 37 cars, caught fire earlier today, 14 June, while it was sailing from Piraeus to Samos.

According to Greek press reports, the fire broke out in the engine room of the ship while the ferry was sailing between the Evdilou and Karlovasi sea area.

Hellenic Seaways and the Greek Port Authority have assured that the fire is under control and none of the ship’s passengers are in danger.

Today was the first itinerary of the “Nissos Mykonos” for the 2013 summer season.

The ship left Piraeus at 12 noon and before sailing to Samos had docked at Syros, Mykonos and Eudilos, Ikaria.
