The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels announced the launch of a series of seminars to inform Greek hoteliers and local tourism professionals on the principles of modern tourism marketing. The initiative kicked off 15-16 June with two regional events held on Crete (Heraklion and Chania). According to the chamber’s president, Yiorgos Tsakiris, the current method, used by individual hoteliers and the industry as a whole, to promote and distribute the Greek tourism product needs to be updated in accordance to modern marketing techniques. Mr. Tsakiris said the chamber decided to invest in the seminars to improve the quality of tourism marketing in Greece by providing specialized knowledge and suggestions to hoteliers on how to promote their businesses. The chamber this way also supports the collective effort to improve the country’s image as a founding partner of the private marketing company for tourism “Marketing Greece.” Hoteliers in Chania get informed on modern tourism marketing techniques The events held in Crete were titled “Building a competitive identity” and presentations included the clarification of marketing aspects and information on how to apply them to the basic principles of tourism. At both events, experts concluded that the quality of tourism marketing in Greece needed to be developed further. They also underlined the gains that could come as a result of targeted marketing strategies in the hotel sector. According to the chamber, in discussions that followed the presentations, hoteliers expressed their doubts in regards to the quality of the current local tourism promotion policy and suggested the immediate establishment of an agency to promote Crete.
