Destinations news Faliro May Be Attica’s Central Seaplane Base by GTP editing team 25 June 2013 written by GTP editing team 25 June 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 The area of the Peace and Friendship Stadium (known as SEF) may become Greece’s main waterway for connections to various destinations in the country, according to a recent announcement by Greek company Hellenic Seaplanes. SEF is located in the Faliro area of Piraeus. The announcement came after company representatives made an official proposal to Piraeus Mayor Vassilis Michaloliakos to construct Attica’s central seaplane base in the SEF area. According to Hellenic Seaplanes, the site is considered ideal as it is accessible via the main roads that pass through SEF, a train station and tram stop are nearby and certain infrastructure already exists (such as a parking area). During the meeting, Mr. Michaloliakos said he found the idea “excellent” and said the municipality would support the entire investment. Hellenic Seaplanes has also held very positive meetings with local authorities to create waterways in Amfilochia (Aetolia-Acarnania), Messolonghi (Peloponnese), Pahi (Megara), Agistri (Argosaronic Gulf), Chania (Crete) and Kalamata (Peloponnese). Hellenic Seaplanes aims to build 100 waterways in Greece by the end of 2013 and another 100 in 2014. According to reports, the seaplane market in Greece is expected to operate as of summer 2014.
