Figures show maturing of strategy of outward orientation and support for Greek tourism

aegeanAegean Airlines recorded a 23 percent increase on its international flights during the May-June 2013 period, the first two months of the main tourism season, compared with the same period the year before. A total of 814,546 passengers took Aegean flights.

According to the airline, the increase is a result of steps taken by the company to expand its international network with 32 new international routes, as well as the further development of its activity from the bases it maintains in Athens and the country’s main regional airports.

More specifically, there was significant growth in international passenger traffic during the two-month period May-June 2013 from the company’s main bases, i.e. those locations where a significant number of aircraft are based [Athens (15 percent), Thessaloniki (23 percent), Herakleion (34 percent) and Rhodes (40 percent)], but also from bases operating just one aircraft, such as Corfu (19 percent), Kos (new base – 155 percent) and Kalamata (new base 274 percent), locations from which the company has achieved increased levels of activity to new destinations.

It is noted that the company’s presence in the key markets of Germany, France, Russia, Israel and Belgium has been strengthened by additional flights from its bases in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Herakleion, Corfu, Kos, Kalamata).

Also, in 2013 AEGEAN introduced 32 new routes and flights to 11 new destinations: Geneva, Manchester, Lyons, Stockholm, Kiev, Baku, Berlin, Nuremberg, Hanover, Warsaw and Stansted (London).

In 2013 AEGEAN will be offering a total of 160 foreign routes, more than in any other year.
