Aegean AirlinesAegean Airlines recorded a 22 percent increase on its international flights during the May-July 2013 period.

In total the airline carried 1.3 million passengers during the May-July 2013 quarter, 235,000 more compared to the same period last year. In July alone, international traffic increased by 19 percent, to 508,000 passengers.

According to the airline, the development is the result of the addition of 11 new destinations and extra international flights both from Athens and from the regions.

In detail, the result for tourism in Athens is positive as a 15 percent increase of international arrivals has been recorded.

Other main bases are showing an increase in international traffic as well. For Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Rhodes, a 19-41 percent increase has been recorded. The smaller bases of Corfu, Kos and Kalamata with one aircraft operating from each are also on a positive course, noting a total increase of 58 percent for international traffic.

“It is the first time that a Greek airline is offering 120 direct international flights from Athens and the regions,” Aegean said in an announcement.

In regards to the airline’s domestic network, Aegean says it continues to offer lower fares, “in response to the domestic market’s needs.”
