Summer Passenger Traffic At Greek Ports Slightly Reduced This Year

Passengers boardingPassenger traffic during July and August at the ports of Piraeus and Lavrio dropped slightly compared to last year, while the port of Rafina reported an increase, according to figures provided by the Greek Coast Guard that run up until 26 August.

This July, 538,656 passengers traveled from Piraeus to an island in the Aegean, compared to 554,832 in 2012 and 39.416 passengers departed from Lavrio, compared to 43,214 last year. In August, 517,890 passengers departed from Piraeus, compared to 529,085 in 2012 while 39.599 traveled from Lavrio against 36.955 in 2012.

From Rafina, 251,603 passengers left Athens in July, compared to 161,429 in 2012 and 151,270 passengers were reported traveling from the port in August, compared to 123,068 in 2012.

Passenger rights

From the beginning of the summer, the Greek Coast Guard distributed the charter of passenger’s rights to all ports of the country, in cooperation with the Consumer Association of Greece.

In addition, a special complaint form in Greek and English is now available to all passengers and can be found in prominent locations on ships.
