Many leading and distinguished athletes will join Greek American Supreme Marathon runner, Dean Karnazes, in the marathon race “Navarino Challenge” taking place in Messinia and Arcadia next month. Top marathon runners Tina Kefalas, Mihalis Parmakis and Dimitris Theodorakakos; Olympic silver medalist in taekwondo, Alexandros Nikolaidis; and Olympic champion and world champion of swimming, Spyros Yianniotis, have all confirmed their participation. A marathon led by Dean Karnazes Through the “Navarino Challenge” marathon race, Dean Karnazes will spread awareness regarding how to fight childhood obesity through sports, healthy living and the right nutrition. He will also focus on the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. The marathon race will take place 18-20 October 2013 during which people of all ages will have the opportunity to obtain information from Mr. Karnazes himself and take part in the races. The Marathon will be held on three different routes — with the participation of Dean Karnazes in all of them —with the three races taking place in three consecutive days. More specifically: Route 1 — Silimna – Tripoli (distance: 5 km) Route 2 — Ancient Messini — Kalamata Airport (distance: 21.1 km — Half marathon) Route 3 – Pylos – Costa Navarino (distance: 15 km) Navarino Challenge aims to be established as an annual event with the support of Dean Karnazes.
