SEGAS is the organizer of the Athens Classic Marathon event. “The Athens Classic Marathon is the best advertisement for Greek tourism as it places Athens in the center of global public attention,” Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said on Monday, 23 September. Speaking at a press conference for the 31st Athens Classic Marathon, Mrs. Kefalogianni underlined the importance of the major sporting event for attracting more tourists to the Greek capital. “Through the history of the marathon, athletes, Greeks and foreigners, but also participating citizens, will have the opportunity to get to know our city: its rich history, culture and, of course, incomparable beauty,” she said. The tourism minister said the development of this special form of tourism would “revive” Athens and contribute to the extension of Greece’s tourism season. “In this context, the Athens Classic Marathon has a special place and value in upgrading the national tourism product,” Mrs. Kefalogianni concluded. Athens Classic Marathon 2013 – The countdown is on! Less than 50 days are left for the 31st Athens Classic Marathon to take place on Sunday 10 November 2013, along with the 5 and 10km Road Races, as well as the 1000m Kids Run and the Special Olympics Hellas race to be held along the Marathon course this year. Also, prior to the marathon, an exhibition on running products (clothing, shoes, accessories), marathon events and tourism services will be held 7-9 November, leading to the actual Athens Classic Marathon event on 10 November.
