Greece Aims To Attract More Tourists From the U.S.

US passport_ticket_EUROSMaking Greece an attractive destination for Americans is one of the main priorities of the Greek Tourism Ministry, the U.S. media was informed recently by the country’s Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.

For the past week the tourism minister has been in New York to further promote Greek tourism to American citizens and the media.

In interviews to major U.S. newspapers such as the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, Mrs. Kefalogianni assured that Greece is a safe and welcoming country for visitors.

North Americans came to Greece this year

According to the tourism minister, 2013 is considered a good year for tourism from the U.S. as, for the first time after several years, a significant increase in arrivals from North America was recorded in Greece.

“We are preparing for 2014… Our goal is to make Greece again an attractive destination for Americans,” she said.

During her stay in New York, Mrs. Kefalogianni held a series of meetings with major executives of the American tourism market and publishing groups and spoke of Greece’s new tourism identity and comparative advantages.

While speaking with American tourism professionals, she informed on the ministry’s plans to develop thematic forms of tourism (medical, religious, conference and senior tourism).

The tourism minister also analyzed the Greek Government’s investment facilitation strategy.

When referring to Greece’s natural beauties, Mrs. Kefalogianni said that they have made the country “one of the most popular destinations worldwide.”
