Greece Explores Joining European Cycle Route “Eurovelo”

eurovelo-cycle-routesThe creation of the first EuroVelo bicycle route in Greece and its importance for sustainable tourism will be discussed at a press conference on 3 October at Thessaloniki’s New City Hall.

The press conference will take place on the sidelines of the conference “Iron Curtain Trail (ICT): Sustainable mobility along the newest EuroVelo route” of the European program South East Europe.

The ICT project is about establishing cycling tourism as one of the main tourism fields in Europe connected to eco-, cultural- and other active tourism sectors through the establishment of the EuroVelo 13 long distance cycling route.

The topics of the conference will include presentations of common methodologies elaborated within the project on action planning, sustainable offers in tourism and transport; presentation of best practices as well as transport and tourism projects in SEE region; and a presentation of potential connection of “Iron Curtain Trail” project to the planning processes for the period 2014-2020.

bicycle_route_signThe conference will be attended by representatives of national, regional and local authorities, local development agencies (Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria), non-governmental organizations (Greece, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria) and other stakeholders (representatives from bicycle associations, tourism services, transport services, etc.).
