Chios, one of the biggest islands in the North-eastern Aegean Sea, is a destination to visit all year around as every month and every season something different can be showed to holidymakers, the Municipality of Chios informed journalists during a press conference held on the sidelines of the 29th Philoxenia exhibition in Thessaloniki.

Konstantinos Moundros of the Municipal Tourism Committee of Promotion & Development gave a presentation on the island that is worldwide famous for its Mastiha, an absolutely natural product, collected from the bark of mastic trees.

But that’s not all one can find on Chios.

“Chios offers alternative forms of tourism compatible with its natural wealth and cultural background,” Mr. Moundros said.

When on Chios, visitors can enjoy sea experiences (sailing, diving and wind surfing); an array of natural products (mastiha, souma-traditional drink made from figs, sardines, cherries), numerous walking tours and art and culture activities.

The island’s local customs are also a sight for one to see. For example, its Rocket war (rouketopolemos) between two churches held every Easter at Vrontados has grown into a world-famous tourism attraction.

“I’m sure that Chios has many special elements to give anyone who decides to visit the island,” Mr. Moundros said.
