Hotels in Thessaloniki have joined the “Greek Breakfast” program and have agreed to include Greek products and dishes on their breakfast menus. In the long-run, the effort is expected to strengthen Greece’s identity and enrich the city’s tourism product.

The “Greek Breakfast of Thessaloniki” was presented on 22 November at a special event held on the sidelines of the 29th Philoxenia exhibition in the northern city. Guests had the opportunity to sample various creations that will be included on the breakfast menus of hotels in Thessaloniki.

The “Greek Breakfast” program is an initiative of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and is designed to promote and establish the country’s gastronomy through Greek hotels.

In its fourth year, the program already involves 202 hotels across the country while another 50 are expected to join by the end of the year.

According to the head of the program, Yiorgos Pittas, due to the high interest of Greek hoteliers, it has been estimated that at least 1,000 hotels will join the program by the end of 2015.

In addition, the hotel chamber announced that the recently launched Greek-English “Greek Breakfast” website will include a third language in early 2014.

The next destination to present its “Greek Breakfast” creations will be Western Macedonia. A special event will take place in early December in Florina.

Five more Greek destinations will soon join the program.

The chamber aims to establish “Greek Breakfast” throughout all hotels of the country.
