Thessaloniki has been honored with the title of “European Youth Capital” for 2014 by the European Youth Forum and will have the whole year to showcase, through a multi-faceted program, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development. In order to attract young Turkish citizens to Thessaloniki next year, the municipality gave a presentation of the city during the Travel Turkey Izmir 2013 International Trade Fair and Conference for Tourism held 5-8 December. Thessaloniki Tourism Organization President Yiorgos Tsamaslis and Thessaloniki Hotels Association President Aristotelis Thomopoulos promoted the Greek northern city as a youth destination to an audience of Turkish tour operators, journalists and local agencies. Turkish tour operators, journalists and local agencies were informed on Thessaloniki’s special features such as the city’s Ottoman monuments, “hidden ” cultural treasures and entertainment options that are ideal for young people. Thessaloniki is known throughout the Balkans as a lively city, popular for its bustling streets, universities and leading cultural and artistic character. More than 100.000 students to the city a completely unique pulse and vibe. International events scheduled for next year in Thessaloniki include the Thessaloniki International Film and Documentary Festival, the Demetria Festival and the Thessaloniki Food Festival that aims to promote the city as a culinary destination.
