metropolitan-1Metropolitan Hospital in Athens, Greece, was recently certified at the level of “excellence in medical tourism” among other international hospitals worldwide.

This is the first Greek hospital to receive the certificate by TEMOS International, the International Certification Organization in Medical Tourism.

metropolitan_2013_CertificateAccording to an announcement, Metropolitan Hospital’s experience in international collaborations and integrated management of medical tourists, combined with its expertise in providing qualitative medical services to international patients, makes it the first hospital in Greece and the 5th worldwide in the level of “excellence in medical tourism” for tertiary care units, receiving the international seal.

The hospital has been accommodating international patients for many years. Some 18 percent international patients are treated annually, mainly coming from Libya but also from other countries such as Romania, Russia, and worldwide.

The main aim to apply for the TEMOS award “Excellence in Medical Tourism” was to optimize the procedures and services for international patients coming for medical tourism and to underline the successful experience with already treated international patients.

Main treatment procedures for international patients include orthopedic surgery, oncology, spine and neurosurgery, cardiology and pediatric oncology.

In August, Metropolitan Hospital successfully passed the TEMOS “Quality in International Patient Care” program.
