Kavala - Kavala city - Port 02The Tourism Ministry’s main priorities for the development of Greece’s regions were recently presented by Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni to the country’s regional vice governors during a meeting in Athens.

According to Mrs. Kefalogianni, the key objectives of the ministry include:

 Strengthening entrepreneurship and investments
– Extending the tourism season
– Strengthening special forms of tourism, such as religious, culinary, conference, sport, agritourism, health tourism-wellness and cruise.
– The creation of new types of jobs.

The tourism minister requested the cooperation of the Greek regions to achieve the common goal: upgrading the quality of Greek tourism.

Earlier in the year, the tourism ministry established a coordination committee to operate proactively and resolve issues that may arise in a Greek region during the tourism season.

Kefalogianni positive about Greek tourism’s future

Mrs. Kefalogianni also spoke about the positive course of this year’s tourism season.

“This year’s tourism season went well, as figures show over 17.5 million tourists and some 12.5 billion euros in revenue, creating expectations that things are changing,” Mrs. Kefalogianni said.

“We can now look ahead with optimism, as the tourism sector, which accounts for 18-20 percent of Greek GDP and 20 percent of jobs, is vital for the development of Greek regions,” she concluded.
