Awards Aldemar Group Wins In 2014 Environmental Awards by GTP editing team 23 December 2013 written by GTP editing team 23 December 2013 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 26 Aldemar Hotels & Spa was recently honored at the 2014 Environmental Awards in Athens, in the category of “Renewable Energy,” by Boussias Communications. “Every distinction is an incentive for us to improve our environmental practices but also an opportunity to raise awareness to all,” said Alexandros Angelopoulos, vice president of Aldemar Group. “Mare Verde” Corporate Social Responsibility program Aldemar Group initiated the “Mare Verde” program in 2000, which involves everything from solar energy and recycling, to land irrigation and growing organic produce to serve at its hotels. Today, 13 years on, the program is considered one of the most successful “green programs” in Greece and involves all employees at every level in an effort to advise guests, local communities, media and other stakeholders about how to contribute to the environment and society. In 1999, Aldemar implemented an innovative energy saving program focused on the production of hot water for general use and hot water for the thalassotherapy center. 2.800 m2 of solar panels and high-efficiency hot water 150m3 tanks were installed in the hotels Knossos Royal, Royal Mare, Royal Mare Thalasso/Spa and Cretan Village on Crete. According to Aldemar, the project, with a total investment cost of 1,320,000 euros, is currently the largest and most technologically advanced production facility of hot water in Greece.
