The company’s founder and chairman, Father Nicholas Alexandris, recently gave details in an interview to New Greek TV (a portal for the Greek-American community in the US) and called for Greeks to support the new effort. “SkyGreece comes to fill the gap left by our Olympic, as from 2009 onwards the Greek diaspora was left without a direct flight service,” Father Nicholas said. The new airline will directly connect Athens to New York throughout the course of the year: five flights a week in the summer and two flights a week in the winter. Moreover, three flights a week will be scheduled from Athens to Montreal and Toronto while plans also include the launch of flights to Chicago and South Africa. SkyGreece’s chairman said the airline would hire some 450 experienced Greeks, primarily former workers of Olympic Airways. “Our staff will include three former pilots of Olympic, each with a background of 18,000 flights, while passengers onboard will be able to read Greek newspapers and listen to Greek music,” he told New Greek TV. Also, Father Nicholas said the airline would launch very advantageous offers. “Our prices will be much better than those of the existing companies, he said.
