Hospitality Athens Hotel Owners Welcome New Ryanair Hub In Greek Capital by GTP editing team 15 January 2014 written by GTP editing team 15 January 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 19 The Athens-Attica & Argosaronikos Hotel Association applauded the recent announcement made by Ryanair on the creation of hubs in Athens and Thessaloniki. The Irish low fares airline announced on 14 January that it would open its second and third Greek hubs in Thessaloniki and Athens respectively. As of April, six new routes will launch from Athens to Chania, London Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Paphos, Rhodes and Thessaloniki. The association said it welcomes any similar positive and promising initiative that would boost tourist traffic to Greece and Athens in particular. “After a six-year downturn for the destination and hotels in Athens-Attica, during which the recorded decline in all performance indicators was as low as 40 percent, we are noticing a positive stance from all with the increase of flights and demand to Athens that we hope will have stability and durability,” the association said in an announcement. The city’s hotel association underlined that a possible increase in the tourism demand for Athens would be a positive development not only for hotels, but also for trade, catering and other activities in the Greek capital. The association also pointed out that the fact that Athens has remained calm in recent months (with no anti-austerity protests and street riots) contributed to the city’s positive image and that the Greek capital continues to attract tourists as a promising destination.
