Event News Tourism’s Dark Side To Be Revealed At Book Presentation In Athens by GTP editing team 21 January 2014 written by GTP editing team 21 January 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 16 On Tuesday 21 January at 6pm, Papazisis Publications and Ianos Book Store will host the presentation of the new Greek book on tourism of Professor Pericles Lytras, deputy chairman of TEI Athens, and Athina Papageorgiou, scientific partner of TEI Athens, entitled “The Tourism that harms… Its unseen and defamatory side.” The book will be presented by Nikos Skoulas, former Greek Tourism Minister; Ioannis Panagiotopoulos, general secretary of the media; and Maya Tsokli, journalist. The presentation will take place in the events foyer of Ianos Book Store (24 Stadiou street, Athens). The Tourism that harms… Its unseen and defamatory side Rather than focus on the known and positive economic, social and psychological aspects of tourism, the book reveals the unseen and defamatory side of the sector. Through the book’s three chapters, readers will be fully informed on tourism’s delinquent behavior, its degenerative social and cultural face and the disastrous environmental alterations the sector can cause. Authors Pericles Lytras and Athina Papageorgiou aimed to highlight the aspects of tourism that cause harm and create problems by revealing the sector’s dark, offensive and often undignified side. The book also includes the ways to eliminate – or at least minimize – the harm caused by the sector so global tourism could proceed towards its radiant course once again. “The Tourism that harms… Its unseen and defamatory side” is addressed to the whole “tourism world” that includes: government officials for tourism, tourism professionals, academics and researchers of the field, specialized journalists in print and electronic media, tourism workers and all students studying tourism.
