Yiorgos_IoannidisYiorgos Ioannidis, the director of the Cyprus Tourism Organization’s Greek branch, died recently in Athens after a battle with cancer. He was 61.

Ioannidis was born in Katokopia (under Turkish occupation) in Cyprus and traveled to Athens when he turned 18 and studied journalism.

He resided in Athens with his companion Maria Loizou for over 30 years. They had two children, Yiannis and Irini. Ioannidis had recently became a grandfather.

His funeral took place on 12 February in the Nea Erithrea cemetery where friends, relatives and associates said farewell to the always “smiling Cypriot.”
