He was 61. Ioannidis was born in Katokopia (under Turkish occupation) in Cyprus and traveled to Athens when he turned 18 and studied journalism. He resided in Athens with his companion Maria Loizou for over 30 years. They had two children, Yiannis and Irini. Ioannidis had recently became a grandfather.
