Culinary New European Gastronomy Portal Launched by GTP editing team 14 February 2014 written by GTP editing team 14 February 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 30 Taste your way through Europe: discover exciting food opportunities during your holidays! A new gastronomy portal that gives travelers the chance to experience the soul of European culture, history and traditions through its food, was recently launched by European Commission Vice President responsible for Enterprise and Industry Antonio Tajani, during the International Tourism Fair in Milan (BIT). The new portal Tasting Europe aims to assist tourists when they tour Europe as it lists gastronomic fairs, festivals and trails, giving travelers the opportunity to taste the unique local products and dishes. “I am convinced that this new European web portal will gain many satisfied customers,” Mr. Tajani said. He underlined that both gastronomy and tourism would benefit from the initiative. According to the last United Nations World Tourism Organization global report, food tourism is an emerging phenomenon due to the fact that over a third of tourist spending is devoted to food. “The success of European tourism is also based on its capacity to innovate, to diversify its offers, to open new markets and to attract new clients, which in turn can strengthen the tourism sector and lead to more jobs,” Mr. Tajani added. The new portal is a result of the cooperation between the European Commission and the European Travel Commission.
