Greece_PeloponneseThe Peloponnese Tourism Organization has published an announcement in which it opposes the Greek Tourism Ministry’s intention to shut down the Peloponnese Regional Tourism Directorate and transfer its services from Tripoli to the directorate in Patras.

Τhe Regional Council of the Peloponnese has also opposed the shutdown, highlighting the necessity of the directorate to remain in the Peloponnese region as it serves numerous tourism entrepreneurs.

The regulation is mentioned in the draft tourism bill entitled “Reorganization of the Tourism Ministry, special tourism infrastructure regulations, education and training in tourism, agritourism and other provisions” that was recently put up for public consultation.

According to the organization, the possible transfer of the regional tourism directorate’s services from Tripoli to Patras would be “a serious blow to the already financially burdened tourism sector in many parts of the Peloponnese.”

The organization said that if the directorate is transferred to another city, its high quality services would be compromised and this would cause a setback to the tourism product of the Peloponnese.

The distance between the two cities was also mentioned as a negative factor since the tourism professionals of the region would be charged with constant travel and accommodation costs. “Even to process the simplest administrative matter, professionals must travel to Patras,” the announcement said.
