Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece Is Regaining Share In German Market by GTP editing team 5 March 2014 written by GTP editing team 5 March 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Greece was the second destination that increased its share in the German tourism market last year, according to data from the RA Reiseanalyse 2014 study by FUR (Forschungsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Reisen e.V.). According to the data, Spain remained the favorite destination of German holidaymakers and gained market share last year. Although Greece was in the eighth place in the popularity ranking of European foreign destinations for the Germans, it was the second country to gain market share in 2013. Italy, Turkey and Austria were in the second, third and fourth place respectively in the popularity ranking for the Germans but did not see their market share increase in 2013. The data also showed that fewer Germans visited Croatia and Scandinavia during their holidays last year as well. In the case of Greece, the study said that demand recovered quickly for the destination (compared to 2012) once the country stopped receiving negative press. As for 2014, Greece has the opportunity to reinforce its comeback. The annually conducted Reiseanalyse is considered to be the most detailed study of the German holiday market. The FUR is an independent association of users of tourism research in Germany and the largest non-commercial organizer and contractor of tourism research.
