This year’s ITB Berlin sent out very positive signals for Athens and the city is expected to attract a larger number of German tourists this year, especially independent travelers, according to the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB). Athens was represented at ITB through a joint stand of the Athens-Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association and ACVB. According to ACVB, the Greek capital attracted interest of a large number of visitors of the exhibition on the last two days. “A large number of German visitors sought information about Athens, mainly in regards to hotels, cultural events, sites of cultural and archaeological interest and island destinations of the Argosaronic Gulf,” the bureau said in an announcement. Greece is on the right track In general, according to German tourism professionals, the booking pace for travel to Greece this summer is very positive with growth rates ranging from 20 to 52 percent (depending on the tour operator). Greek travel professionals expect this year to close with an increase in arrivals from Germany between 10 and 15 percent. According to recent data presented at ITB, Greece ranks third among the top destinations for Germans. Athens To Host TBEX 2014 Event For Travel Bloggers On the second day of the ITB exhibition, it was announced that the Greek capital was chosen as the host destination for TBEX Europe 2014, the world’s largest gathering of travel bloggers, writers, new media content creators, and social media savvy travel industry professionals. TBEX Europe 2014 will take place in October at the Megaron Athens International Conference Center. According to estimates by representatives of TBEX, headquartered in the United States, the event has already attracted the interest of travel bloggers who have already started to register for TBEX Europe 2014.
