AIA_kids_exhibitionAthens International Airport (AIA) and the Voluntary Organization for Children “The Smile of the Child” are holding an art exhibition under the title “Traveling the world with a kid’s luggage.”

The artwork was created by children from 31 countries within the airport’s “Play Area” over the nine-month period June 2013-February 2014 (Greece, Ireland, the UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Finland, Norway, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Cyprus, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, China, Australia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the USA, Canada, Peru, Algeria, Japan, Singapore, and New Zealand.)

On the occasion of the airport Play Area’s 12 years of operation, the airport’s little “ambassadors,” take us on an imaginary “journey” to their own countries and thoughts, just before flying away from Athens. The luggage, made of carefully chosen materials, combine messages and images; not only a beautiful memory of their stay at the airport, but also a promise that they will visit us again soon!

“I wish all children of the world to be blessed!” – Aahana from India wrote on her hand-made luggage.

“I want to be a pilot like my father” – Paul from Switzerland wrote after drawing a plane and a smiley pilot.

“Thank you!! It was the best waiting time I had in an Airport” – Tidarat from Thailand.

The children’s exhibition is on display next to the Play Area entrance (Departures, Entrance 3 / 2nd floor, public area) and will run until 31 December 2014.

For more than 12 years, children traveling from all over the world have their own meeting point at the airport. Creative children’s entertainment activities first started in February 2002, when AIA, in collaboration with “The Smile of the Child,” created a welcoming area for young travelers to play and relax. Since then, 54,250 children filled it with laughter, joy and creativity.
