Panagia Sision Monastery According to ELLET, repair and restoration must be ensured for the all historical monuments on the island, many of which remain abandoned and deserted since the devastating earthquakes of 1953. As a first step, ELLET has launched an initiative to rescue three important monuments of Kefalonia: the Panagia Sision Monastery, the Agios Spyridon Church at the settlement of the Castle of Agios Giorgios and the mansion of the Vallianos family in Keramies. The initiative aims to raise funds for specialized studies to be prepared (involving the restoration of the monuments) so repair works can receive funding through a European Union program (NSRF or other). The Greek Culture Ministry is aware of the issue and has pledged to assist ELLET in their effort. Meanwhile, friends of Kefalonia can support the effort by making a donation through the website.
