Piccigallo. Argo Travel Group is representing and promoting Greece to Vietnamese tourism professionals and travelers at the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM), the annual professional event organized by the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA). The travel mart opened on 3 April at the Vietnam Exhibition Fair Center in Hanoi and will run until 6 April. This is the first time Greece is taking part in the VITM exhibition. Being the largest outbound travel fair in Vietnam, VITM 2014 offers businesses many opportunities for face-to-face contact with thousands of local trade professionals and potential travelers of the Vietnamese market. On the first day of the exhibition, Argo Travel’s representatives had a meeting with the Ambassador of Greece to Vietnam Rosa Ieremia and made proposals aimed to boost tourist arrivals from Vietnam to Greece. Argo Travel expanded to Southeast Asia last year and established a base in Bangkok, aiming to develop inbound tourism to Greece from the Thailand and Vietnam markets. The Greek travel organization already has an international presence in major markets that includes Athens – the headquarters of the group since 1952 – London, Geneva and Shanghai. With the launch of the office in Bangkok, considered the most significant travel hub in Southeast Asia, Argo Travel’s focus has expanded to a dynamic market with 600 million inhabitants. In the last eight months, Argo Travel has participated in tourism exhibitions in India, Thailand, Malaysia, China and Vietnam to promote the unrivaled beauty of Greece. Outbound travel Vietnam is among the fastest growing outbound markets. It was estimated that in 2013 4 million Vietnamese traveled abroad and spent some $4.5 billion. Yet, outbound travel is still a new sector, and Vietnam’s travel agencies and travelers lack information about destinations and attractive tourism products (leisure, shopping, medical, wellness tours).
