The island of Rhodes continues to be the most popular Greek destination for Austrian travelers. According to leading tour operators in Austria, bookings from Austria to Greece in general are growing on double-digit rates this year. However, when it comes to which Greek destination has received the most bookings, Rhodes comes first in popularity. This is due to the island’s constant promotion in the Austrian market, tour operators say. Actions for 2014 This year, the Rhodes Tourism Promotion Organization (PROTOUR) has embarked on a series of promotional actions in collaboration with leading tour operator Thomas Cook Austria (Neckermann) that will last three months. (PROTOUR coordinates the tourism activities of the island’s municipality, hoteliers’ association and the Chamber of Commerce of the Dodecanese.) The actions will particularly focus on attracting more young visitors to the island. Rhodes promotional event at the Palffy Club in Vienna. At a recent promotional event at the Palffy Club in Vienna, the uniqueness of Rhodes and its potential as a tourism destination was presented to 150 Austrian travel agents. In mid-April, promotional videos on Rhodes, combined with offers of Thomas Cook-Neckermann, will be displayed on flat-screens in the windows of 50 travel agencies of the Ruefa Reisen chain. PROTOUR is also planning to display Rhodes,for a two- month period, on the sides of two buses that circulate Vienna.
