Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece Expects More German Tourists In 2014 by GTP editing team 12 May 2014 written by GTP editing team 12 May 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 16 “German tourists are Greece’s most loyal and traditional guests,” the general secretary of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Panos Livadas, informed the state secretary of the Hamburg Ministry of Economy, Transport and Innovation, Dr Bernd Egert in a meeting during his recent visit to Germany. During the first two months of 2014, German arrivals to Greece increased 10.7 percent on last year. Overall, in 2013, 2,267,546 Germans visited Greece against 2,108,787 in 2012, which translates to a 7.5 percent increase. During the meeting, Mr. Livadas informed that Greece expects 2014 to be an exceptional tourism season as revenue is expected to exceed last year’s amount of 12 billion euros and mark a new record for the country. He also underlined how important Greece considers its tourism industry for the country’s economic recovery. “Our tourism product offers one million jobs and contributes to 16.4 percent of the country’s GDP,” Mr. Livadas said. The number of incoming tourists to Greece last year increased by 15.5 percent, reaching 17.9 million tourists. That number is expected to surpass 18.5 million this tourism season.
