Museum, Archaeological Site Attendance In Greece Rises In January 2014

Greek museums experienced an 11.8 percent increase in visitor numbers in January 2014 compared with the same month of 2013, according to a survey on museums and archaeological sites attendance carried out by the Greek statistical authority, ELSTAT. Revenue for the same period was up by 10.5 percent.

In regards to Greek archaeological sites, the survey showed that during the first month of the year, visitor numbers and revenue were up by 29.1 percent and 19.5 percent respectively, compared with the same period last year.

In January 2014, the Museum of Ancient Olympia saw the largest increase in visitors (34.2 percent), followed by the Archaeological Museum of Delphi (33 percent) and the Acropolis Museum (21 percent).

On attendance numbers for Greek archeological sites, the survey showed that the largest increase was noticed at Delphi (56.1 percent), followed by Mycenae (47.7 percent) and Epidaurus (38.8 percent).
