Thessaloniki_Youth_ConferenceSky Express, a Greek airline based in Crete, will launch three weekly flights from Thessaloniki, the largest city in Northern Greece, to the island of Skiathos in the Sporades from 1 June until 4 September 2014.

The announcement was made recently by the airline’s commercial manager, Yiannis Lidakis, at a press conference held on the occasion of a cooperation agreement signed between Sky Express and the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The Thessaloniki-Skiathos route will operate via Jetstream aircraft (30 seats) on Wednesday evenings, Friday mornings and Sunday afternoons. One way tickets will cost between 69-90 euros.

Sky Express already connects Thessaloniki with the destinations of Limnos, Mytilini, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, and Skyros.

Under the cooperation agreement with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Sky Express will promote the city during the Thessaloniki Food Festival. Actions will included the promotion of Thessaloniki’s gastronomy on the airline’s in-flight meals.

Sky Express also said it would promote “island hopping” packages to encourage tourists holidaying at other Greek destinations (Skiathos, for example) to make a short visit Thessaloniki. “This will make those tourists future visitors of Thessaloniki,” Mr. Lidakis explained. He added that the “island hopping” package concept is something useful for travel agents and hoteliers.

The Cretan airline will also promote Thessaloniki through the European Youth Capital initiative possibly by launching package deals for young people interested in attending the events in the Greek northern city.

In addition, Sky Express will participate in actions of the newly established Thessaloniki Convention Bureau.
