Deadline To Extend For Greek Regional Airport Bids

The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest in the tender launched for the privatization of Greece’s regional airports is expected to be extended until the end of July, according to media reports. The latest deadline for the submission of expressions of interest was set for 20 June.

The tender concerns two groups of regional airports that will be conceded for a period of 40 years with the possibility of an extension for another 10 years. The two groups of airports are the following:

Group A concerns the airports of Thessaloniki, Chania, Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Aktio and Kavala. The investor is also given the option to choose from the airports of Alexandroupolis, Araxos, Kalamata and Aghialos.
Group B concerns the airports of Rhodes, Kos, Skiathos, Mykonos, Santorini, Samos and Mytilini. The investor is also given the option to choose from the airports of Limnos, Chios, Karpathos and Nea Aghialos.

According to reports, investors are highly interested in Greece’s major regional airports and particularly those in Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Kos, Corfu, Chania. These airports welcome some 13 million passengers and some 100 million euros will be required to upgrade their infrastructure.

The airports of Zakynthos, Santorini, Lesvos, Mykonos, Samos, Kefalonia, Preveza and Kavala welcomed some four million arrivals last year and it is estimated that around 95 million euros will need to be invested to upgrade their infrastructure.

The companies and consortiums to table binding offers in the tender are the following: Zurich Airport-J&P Avax, Athens International Airport, Fraport-Copelouzos, Aeroports de la Cote d’Azur, Corporacion America-METKA, Vinci-Ellaktor, and Advent International.
