Hersonissos_religious_tourismThe Municipality of Hersonissos has released a new brochure to promote the area’s churches and monasteries to assist travelers interested in religious tourism. This is the second publication of a series of thematic brochures announced by the municipality in the beginning of the year.

The brochure “Religious Experiences” contains all religious monuments located in the Municipality of Hersonissos.

The brochure will be distributed free to all hotels in Hersonissos.

“This publication is an important contribution both to historical memories and to the area’s orthodox elements, connecting the present with the past,” the municipality said in an announcement.

According to the municipality, the brochure/guide of religious monuments is an excellent way to showcase and promote the remarkable history of Hersonissos.

The municipality aims for the listed religious monuments to be seen not only as sacred places of worship, but also as cultural monuments of archaeological interest.

Hersonissos_religious_tourism_1The brochure provides detailed information on approximately 40 churches and monasteries of the Municipality of Hersonissos in three languages (Greek, English, Russian).

“The publication of the thematic brochure for religious tourism will offer multiple benefits to the local economy as it will encourage visitors to also explore the lesser-known areas of our municipality and give a boost to tourism throughout the year,” Hersonissos Mayor Zaharias Doxiadis said.

The brochure “Religious Experiences” is a small sample of the municipality’s next initiative, which will be an updated print and online guide with the archaeological and pilgrimage destinations of Hersonissos.
