Employees at Greece’s Public Power Corporation (PPC), protesting the government’s privatization plans, have entered the second day of rolling strikes today, 4 June.

Speaking to the press, unionists revealed plans to extend the strike to the Greek islands, which are currently full of foreign tourists.

While speaking to the Greek media, Mrs. Kefalogianni commented that the strike could have a negative impact on the daily lives of citizens and smooth operation of tourism enterprises.

“Nobody wants unpleasant images of the past that discredit Greece to be repeated,” the Greek tourism minister stressed.

She added that such circumstances demand a high sense of responsibility in order to shield Greek tourism, protect the thousands of families that work in the tourism industry and not hurt the Greek economy.
