As announced at a media briefing on 23 July by SETE’s president, Andreas Andreadis, KEPE will research specific topics of tourism interest, develop scientific proposals in accordance with the data and design and evaluate public policies at a European and a national level. First study to shed light on revenue from inbound tourism KEPE’s first assignment will be to discover how much of the direct tourism revenue from inbound tourism to Greece will actually remain in the country. (Direct tourism revenue from inbound tourism to Greece this year is estimated at 13 billion euros). According to SETE, given the fact that the increase in inbound tourists creates direct and indirect revenues in a number of domestic activities (dining, cultural activities, purchases at tourist shops, etc.), the study will aim to reveal the percentage of incoming revenue that remains in Greece, in relation to the amount of money that is re-exported. The survey will record raw data on arrivals, overnight stays and travel receipts, the profile of tourists, the consumption rate of local, domestic and imported products, and revenue from cultural activities, museums, dining, etc. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
