Air Travel Aegean Airlines Among Carriers To Renew Flights To And From Tel Aviv by GTP editing team 25 July 2014 written by GTP editing team 25 July 2014 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Aegean Airlines Several American and European airlines have been informed they can consider flying again to and from Israel’s international airport and have already renewed flights. This development came after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), on Wednesday 23 July, lifted its ban on US flights in and out of Israel. The FAA initially instituted the flight prohibition on Tuesday in response to a rocket strike that landed approximately one mile from the airport. Following the FAA’s ban lift, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on Thursday revised its recommendation to airspace users to refrain from operating to and from Israel’s international airport. EASA said airlines and national authorities should make their own decisions, based on the risks involved. The decision of the authorities was immediately followed by airlines resuming flights to Tel Aviv. According to reports, when the ban was lifted, Air France said that at present it would not resume flights to Israel while German airline carrier Lufthansa suspended all its flights to Tel Aviv for another 24 hours. Greek carrier Aegean Airlines announced on Friday that it was resuming flights to Tel Aviv. “AEGEAN regrets for the inconvenience that may have be caused by the decision to temporarily cancel the flights of our passengers whose safety is a key priority,” the airline said in an announcement.
